The Chinese word for four sounds like "death." Japanese and Korean cultures share an aversion to the number. There's no "4" series for Nokia cell phones.

So, I admit the sentence is confusing, but is it possible he's referring to the number of phones, including Nokia phones, sold in Asia? When I was in travelling in China, I met several people who worked for Nokia there.
Sure, that makes sense if you think about it.
But if I wanted to think about stuff, I wouldn't read Roeper.
