It seems like something significant happens in Iowa every four years...

In today's column in the Bright One, Lynn Sweet examines the "stunning financial aid package" put together by Barack Obama for fellow democratic candidates. While the entire column is well worth reading -- including her good faith effort "to revise and amend" the comments she made in this article from The Hill -- one line item struck me in particular.

While the remainder of Mr. Obama's contributions were to support Democrats running for congressional offices and Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts, he also "[r]aised $25,000 for Iowa state House and Senate candidates in Davenport on Monday."

Now why would a man running for Senate from Illinois devote precious time during the final month of a campaign to raise money for candidates running for a spot in the Iowa statehouse?
